Performing as countertenor soloist alongside the Illyria Consort, led by violinist Bojan Čičić, Barnaby Smith’s programme brings together three stunning solo cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach in a coherent emotional arc - Widerstehe doch der Sünde BWV 54, Ich habe genug BWV 82, and Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust BWV 170 - alongside the radiant Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major BWV 1068. By turns introspective, consolatory and exuberant, Barnaby’s close affiliation with Bach’s vocal music offers a compelling portrait of these works, performed with musicians steeped in the Baroque tradition.
