Acclaimed violinist Jack Liebeck and pianist Olga Zado present a programme that traces the evolution of film music from its earliest years to the cinematic soundscapes of the present day.
Beginning with excerpts from one of the very first original film scores, Camille Saint-Saëns’ music for L'Assassinat du duc de Guise, the programme moves through the richly expressive writing of contemporary composer Dario Marianelli, whose scores for Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina have become modern classics of the genre. The journey concludes with a sparkling selection from Dmitri Shostakovich’s score for The Gadfly (The Hornet), revealing the wit, lyricism and theatrical flair that made his film music so enduringly popular.
Jack Liebeck is one of Britain’s leading violinists, performing regularly with the world’s finest orchestras and conductors. A sought-after recording artist for film, he has contributed to the soundtracks of Jane Eyre, Anna Karenina and The Theory of Everything. Olga Zado, artistic director of the FinestClassics chamber music series in Mannheim, has appeared as a soloist in many of Europe’s leading concert halls and is celebrated for her imaginative and expressive performances.
Together, they bring these remarkable scores to life in a programme that explores more than a century of cinematic storytelling through music—by turns dramatic, romantic, nostalgic and exhilarating.
